I hope ARB doesn't hear that you referred to them as "a posi". That just ain't right. Like I said earlier, "posi" is a Chevrolet term for their lsd back in the 50s-60s, not a locker like the ARB.

Lock Rite and PowerTRax are made by the same company....Richmond Gear. The PowerTrax No-Slip is somewhat more sophisticated (and expensive) due to its design. Most lunchbox lockers will make a slight ratcheting/clicking sound while making a turn. The PowerTrax No-Slip does NOT make any sound in a turn. That's the one saving grace of a lsd, they're smooth and quite because like their middle name says, they "slip".

All true...but Detroit lockers are bombproof and the only sound I ever hear is a faint clicking as one side disengages once in a while. Since I tightened up the front end, I have near zero torque steer as well. Made a believer out of me.

Nope, I'm not saying that at all. The PowerTrax is the only locker I'm familiar with and have had zero, zip, nada issues with them and they DO NOT make a ratcheting/clicking sound in a turn. The ratcheting sound may bother some folks but is a non-issue to others. I'm sure that other brands of lockers are good also.......the PowerTrax just floats our boat.
Do some searching on the Internet and you'll become a traction enhanced differential "expert". Then when you use the word "posi", you will be using it in the same sentence with Chevy lsd, not on a Jeep forum. LOL

The cheapest easiest way to go would be a lock right, aussie, or spartan lunchbox locker. They are all basically the same locker, just with a different brand name. All of these run about $250 and can ususally be put in without removing the carrier. The only difference between these lockers and a powertrax no-slip is that they will make a ratcheting noise around a corner, but from my experience the handling is not any different. If you want the cheapest easiest way to go get one of those. If the idea of a ratcheting noise bothers you and you have the cash, get a powertrax no-slip.

I just remembered that I tested my Detroit locker to see if it "worked" the old fashioned way...I put the right rear wheel on a gravel shoulder and left on pavement and stomped on it.
Took off like a jack rabbit and zero spin. That's a locker.

What size tires are you running? The biggest I would reccomend with a locker and a 8.25 is 33" tires. Of course if you are heavy on the skinny pedal you could still break an axle with 33s, but if you don't drive like an idiot yout axles should be ok. I have a friend with a lockright in his 8.25 with 33" TSL Swampers and he has not broken any axles yet and he drives it every day and wheels it most weekends.
