Default How delicate are IAC valves?

87 Cherokee inline 6. I cleaned my Idle Air valve with kerosene. I was not gentle. I was scrubbing hard with a tooth brush and scraping stuff off with a scraper. I let it soak in kerosene.

Did I ruin it? My idle goes from 500 to almost nothing, but does not die. Cycles like that every 30 seconds or so. More so when first started, but still does it a bit when the engine us up to temp. It idled fine before I "fixed it".

What you probably did to it starts and ends with the same letters as the word fixed

have a read up on the need not to use too much force or chemicals on an IAC

You can peek down that hole in the throttle body and you might be able to watch the IAC move.

How is the o-ring on the IAC?

Soaking the whole thing in kerosene probably wasn't the greatest idea. But the business end should be pretty resistance to gas and kerosene.

Right, it's electromechanical. Kerosene probably isn't good on the insulation of the motor coils. Also the pintle shaft and worm gears are lubricated with a lithium coating.. you stripped that off also but it was probably dirty anyways. After you cleaned it up the shaft and stepper gears need lubricated. A quick drying silicone lubricant works really well. I use garage door silicone lubricant.
