How do you check transmission fluid?
I drained around 5 quarts from my transmission when I took it out to replace the flexplate. I put in around 5 quarts, then drove it for around 20-30 minutes. I came back home, stopped, moved the lever through all the gears, then put it in park while idling.
I checked the level, and it looked dry. I put it back in agan, and it was about 3/4 of an inch overfilled. I kept checking again and again while wiping the dipstick, and the fluid level stayed on the dipstick stayed the same. Now, I went back in the car, moved the shift lever back and forth, and when I took the dipstick out, it was at the full line. I wiped it, put it back again, and it said overfilled. I also repeated this, but leaving it in neutral instead of park, and it the same thing happened except the dipstick was not completely dry at first.
I made sure to check both sides of the dipstick when checking the level. It seems if I take the dipstick out, wipe it, put it in, and wait about a minute, it reads at the full line. What the heck is going on? Can I just leave it be? There were no problems when driving.

Torque convertor locking up normally after reinstalling?
Instructions are printed on the dipstick
I wouldn't pull it multiple times , it will leave fluid in the tube.
Transmission at operating temperature
Car on level ground for a few minutes
Idle in Neutral
Read on both sides on the first pull out (you don't have to wipe it first)
There should not be any complicating factor in this.

Im not sure if the torque convertor is locking up properly, but I dont notice anything out of the ordinary. When you say 'Car on level ground for a few minutes', the engine should be idling in neutral during that time right? The dipstick says to idle in park. Would it be different if in neutral?
