Lucas does have two types of gasoline engine oil additives. 1 is a conventional fossil fuel additive which is thicker like honey. The other is a synthetic makeup and is significantly thinner. I have used both additives in my XJ, WJ, 97' 4.6 liter F150, 1970 FJ Cruiser with a Chevy 350. The normal 4.0 liter tick seemed to disappear with the synthetic additive. These additives do work, I have had my oil tested to prove to myself it was worth the cost (My company owns heavy equipment and we send in oil samples regularly to ensure our millions in equipment is working properly) so I sent used oil with and without the additive in for testing.
Have you used NAPA brand oils before? I use nothing but Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W-30. I live in Colorado and honestly depending on where work takes me in this state it could be -20 to 110 degrees between oil changes.

Not trying to hammer on Lucas, but you need no oil additives. Premium oil has everything the engine needs already in it.
The ONLY time I use an oil additive is when the engine burns a LOT of oil and I'm trying to limp it along a few more miles.

Usuing most oil additives thicken your oil and that's what cover ip noises if you choose a heavier oil like 5w-40 it would also go away, not foam up in your motor and send foamy engine oil through out your engine,

Hey just saying my 1997 Ford f150 was purchased new. Used conventional Lucas additive from day one with Mobil synthetic 5w30. And changed over to Lucas synthetic additive when they started to produce it. The truck had 280k miles on it when I sold and consumed no oil. This truck was lifted and chipped. So that motor had a hard life, pulled trailers and Colorado extreme weather. There was limping it along. The only vehicle I bought used was my 2000 xj that leaked and ticked. Lucas or synthetic Mobil one cleaned that up also. In my opinion NAPA or Valvoline is like drinking natty light and wonder why it tastes like crappy and gives you a headache. Spend a few more dollars and put the good stuff in your jeep additive or not. Buy the good a 280k Ford is thanking me for it....

To the person that started this post. I overlooked something in your post. How much oil did you expect to cone out during the drain? Did you use all of the 5 quarts and the 1 quart of Lucas when you refilled the crankcase?

I had 300k on my tacoma before it was bought back due to a frame recall. It had Mobil 1 in from the first oil change, never used oil, leaked oil nothing. I done a head gasket on it at 242k (not that it needed it but just for peace of mind) at which time I pulled the motor. All of the bearing clearances were in spec and nowhere near the service wear limit. The engine appeared new inside. I'm a firm believer in Mobil syn oil. I don't use it in my xj because it uses a couple quarts between oil changes. I'm planning to do a rebuild this spring and will be switching oils when I do.

My 00 z71 had a tick like a bad lifter . I used lucas and it got worse. Traded it off after that. Ive seen lucas work some miracles and Ive seen it make stuff worse. I knew a dude that had a wrist pin knocking in a F150 that had the 5.0 and when he put lucas in it would stop.
