How the H* to extract valve cover breather fittings?

I have done a lot of heavy lifting on both of my XJs, but getting that dang grommet out was a pain in my butt. I had the valve cover off and the metal was starting to bend. IT was really brittle so I used pliers to pick it apart. If you haven't taken the valve cover off, I highly recommend that to make the job easier.

Here is the correct part with my hose fix/replacement for breather vent to air box tubing. Hose is 9/16" ID, 17" long.
