How hot do these run?!
This is my second cherokee (only had first one a few weeks before i got rear-ended on freeway and totaled it ...), but my new one runs at about 210 engine temp! It seems pretty hot. Anyone have any insight or knowledge on this? It pretty much stays at 210 as well. I can be in town, or drive for an hour on the freeway and 210 is just what its at. Any ides? Thanks!!

When was the thermostat last changed and when was the last time the radiator got flushed.. Sounds like you ended up with someones elses problem.
If the radiator fluid is at the right level, then you probably have a constricted radiator or bad thermostat. If the fluid is low, you might have a air bubble causing the overheating. Does the heater run hot or cold?
If you want, run a dedicated electrical line to the radiator fan relay and leave the fan running all the time. You then either turn it off when you cut the ignition or connect it to a switched line going to the ignition.

Alright....thanks alot for the input guys!!! The hood does feel really hot!!....What I did notice when I was looking for a cherokee was that alot of the hoods of these have some "checking" in the paint(only on the hood)....making me think that the hot feeling is normal..? Anyways, I've only had it a few weeks and have yet to flush the radiator.... so i'll do that tomorrow and see if that helps things out a bit.! And just to clarify, after 5 minutes of running from cold start in the morning, it's right at 210, but as i mentioned earlier, it seems as though no matter how long I run it for, it stays right at that temp. Which makes me think its normal! ??

T-stat only controls minimum coolant temp at moderate to low ambient temps........at high ambient temps, the rest of the cooling system controls (or doesn't) max coolant temps. The XJ has a dinky (surface area) radiator.....everything needs to be in good shape in order to maintain it's cool in high ambient temps/heavy loads.
210F is where the factory has rigged the gauge to point, normal operating temp range can fluctuate +/-40 degrees.
