Default how to run straight pipe?

So I cut off my cat and got a new tailpipe. (Factory tailpipe) I wanted to run some pipe from where I cut the cat to the tail pipe was wandering if any one knew what size adapter and pipes I need cuz I dont want to keep having to check pipes at auto zone trying to match them up. Was wandering if any one has ever done this. And do u think that I should run a new cat first then run the straight pipe to the tail pipe? Any info would help! Thank u

About 2 minutes under your XJ with a tape measure will answer all your questions.
