best way to find the gear ratio is to check the tags held on by the diff cover bolts, grab a wire brush and a rag cuz it will be dirty as all hell, the first three digits will be the gear ratio

Make sure you put a chalk mark on BOTH wheels, and make sure they both turned the same amount.
If you have an open diff, and you slow or stop one wheel, the opposite wheel with turn faster/farther, and your ratio count will be off.

4.10:1, manual transmission, V6; automatic transmission, I4 engine.
4.56:1, automatic transmission, I4, offroad or tow package.
this is off of Wikipedia, i have the tranny cooler, heavy duty radiator, and trailer hitch, and the hitch isnt a pep boys or a u haul cheappy hitch. so i'm assuming ive got the 3.73's, but im goin to try the wheel spin thing
Hmm I have a v6, auto, with the up country package but the build sheet says my gears are 3.55.

Nice. Yeah my build sheet says I have the up country package (hd suspension, tranny cooler, skid plates, tow hooks, hitch) but only 3.55 gears. What's up with that?

So correct me if I am wrong.... But I've heard that the "jackstands/chalk" method only works if you have a locker in the diff. If you have an open diff, you will need to make 2 revolutions, correct?
