how well do power trax lock rights work?
#17
I Can tell you FIRST HAND that Power Trax Lockers are GREAT. The only small concern, if it is considered a concern is going around corners, YOU WILL hear a clicking sound. DO NOT be concerned with that because it is the signature of that type of locker. NOT an issue at all. No, you will NOT wear out tires any different than with anyother type of locker. BELIEVE ME WHEN I TELL YOU, POWER TRAX LOCKERS ARE EXCELLENT.

I'm not going to debate about the noise. I've had these on my Jeep for years and they DO make a clicking noise around turns. The manufacturer can atest to that. That was a concern of mine when I first installed them. The manufacter set me straight on that. Until you install them and experience that, you wouldn't know.

..........u have used a PowerTrax NO-SLIP?????????? They're are advertised as "no ratcheting noise in turns" like most other lockers do. Have installed 4 of the NO-SLIP units, they don't make a ratchet/click noise in a turn like other lockers.

The OP asked about Lockrights not no-slips and Lockrights do make a clicking noise. No-slips are closer to a LSD than a locker and he is looking for a locker.

Most of that statement is simply incorrect. A No-Slip locker is a more sophisticated locker than a LockRight. It's also more expensive than a LockRight. No way is the No-Slip "closer to a LSD", it's a full blown locker, just more sophisticated. They are both made by Richmond Gear. Visit Richmond's web site for the low down.

mine ratches around corners turning to the right it clicks moreso as turning to the left basically it un locks when u turn on pavement especially cause of the traction. when u get straight it'll lock back. also sometimes when backin up turnin either way binds them, i sometimes get a loud pop which is sign of it releasing instread of breakin.

^ That reminds me, I meant to ask whether this are effectively "2-way". I have a clutch type locker in my 240sx for drifting and its considered a "2-way" b/c it will lock the clutch plates with either a accel or decel loading. Do they make a 1-way lunch box locker? I've been considering a locker for my 97 but was a little concerned that my engine decel would cause the rear to lock as well. That would be so much better for us 5 speed Cherokee owners.

My lockright clicked going around corners as well. A lockright locker will click going around corners, unless you are on the gas heavily. If you are coasting around the corner and it doesn't click then you have a problem. I would stay away from the no slip. A friend of mine ran one for about 6 months and it was toast. It was basically is open diff. then. He took that POS out and put a lockright locker in and has had zero problems with it for the last 5 years or so.

How is most of my statement incorrect. Richmond gear compares it to a LSD and a locker, says it's somewhere in between. The rest is correct: the OP asked about Lockrights and they do click. BTW I have seen several no slips with a tire off the ground only spin one tire while with both on the ground both spin just like a LSD.
