Some of you say that, and I suppose it is "DO-able", but definitely not ideal. I was initially going to go 30's, but I got a great deal on 31" Dueler AT 693's already mounted on wheels. Drove it for a bit with stock gears, it SUCKED. And mpg took a hit. Swapped in a C8.25 with 4.10s, mileage went back up and I feel like it goes somewhere now.
I think there are some older older pics of my xj w/ 3" lift and 235's. I do not think it looks that silly.
If I had to do it again, I would have swapped the 4.10s first.
There should also be some semi-recent pics of my heep on 31's with 3"

3" rough country lift with full leaf packs. hard to tell that it's parked on slight incline but it sits level.. turned out better than i thought.
please excuse the plasti-dip paint job, that's only the first coat.

yes it is, i have done plenty of work to help it, namely 45 psi in my tires, 703 injectors, high flow cat, dynomax super turbo cat back system, air intake, no mechanical fan, no ac compressor, not to mention i coast all the time lol

What about going to a 3.73 from 3.55 on the C8.25? If I'm going to regear I would want near stock performance. I know this subject had gone back and forth a million times but if I don't have to regear to run 31s and still maintain good off road performance I won't.
Oh and do I have to drop the transfer case being 2wd? lol jk jk

Seriously having a hard time beleiving 22mpg solid with that setup. Not on you but the XJ's accuracy.
I've driven a new XJ on 33s with 3.55s and pep is not in it's vocabulary.
You may be one of the lucky few.
I suppose if you're on flat ground all the time and slooooowwwly accelerate, then once it's up to speed those 35"s put a lot of distance to the ground with minimal load and high geared axles then maybe 22 but I would think the rotational mass of the 35s would inhibit it on rockier trails.
You're not factory geared 4:10 possibly?
Hope you're carrying spare shafts lol. That D35's probably begging for death, poor thing
I've known a few guys who've run 35s with stock gears but they only wheeled them never highway and they had 8.25s not a D35.
Mine on 3" BDS full spring lift and 31s. Want to go bigger but it's my only ride lol.
The rear is about 2 inches lower than normal in this pic because it had a few hundred pounds of river rock in it (breaking in the lift lol). It normally sits where a 4" should a little higher than the front is in this pic.

I'm not exactly sure what size my lift is, but I think its somewhere around 3-3.5". I have 31x10.5x15 Firestone Destination LT's. They work great as far as functionality, but I would like to get some 33's. These tires work great even through this Chicago snowstorm. I havent felt like I've even come close to getting stuck.

I found a complete Rusty's Offroad 3" lift kit in a Pick-A-Part a few weeks back. Had 3" lift coils, 3.5 leaf springs, tubular upper and lower control arms and shocks. Great deal. Purchased some Treadwright Guard Dog M/T retreads in 31x10.5x15. I had to get some 1.5" spacers to use with the stock offset wheel so the tires don't rub on the lower control arms when turning sharp. But other than that, it works great.
