Default howling in the rear of my 2000 Classic

I have a 2000 Classic that has a howling sound coming from what sounds like the back. I reminds me of a bad bearing of some type. On the advice of a few people I know, I replaced both the wheel bearing (that I know of) in the back axle but it still howls. Does anyone know what else could be causing that? Is that a normal sound in that year?

If it helps, I have the C8.25 rear axle.

Thanks

Pinion bearing ? Take your driveshaft off and spin your pinion by hand .. Feel for any rough spots when you turn it

I' am assuming that is the one that the drive shaft goes through in the diff, correct?

You could also have a pinion crush sleeve collapsing or collapsed, which allows the gears to come out of mesh very slightly, resulting in howling noise. I've had this happen on my pickup truck and it is currently happening in my XJ.

Just overhaul your rear end .. Axle shaft bearings and pinion bearings .. Reset your backlash .. Might as well do it all while your there

I have something similar to that. It only does it whenever I let off of the gas and coast a little bit. Kind of like a howling/ grinding noise. Could this be the same issue?

I had a 74 Bronco that had a howling sound coming from the rear. Turned out to be a drunk white chick...

Ok, I know it has bee a while but I am finally able to get the parts I need to fix this beast but my issue is now, do I have a 27 spline or a 29? Or do even that matter when replacing the bearings and such?

I replaced my axle shaft bearings when I did the rear disc upgrade, unfortunately the howling is still there when I let off the gas. Looks like I'll be replacing the pinion bearings before it gets too cold outside.

hahaha

Anyway. It sound like you have the "Chrysler whine"

My pinion bearing was howling which led me to do an axle swap simply because I wanted to have deeper gears, and I decided to open the old axle up and saw this howling in the rear of my 2000 Classic-image-3288220926.jpg howling in the rear of my 2000 Classic-image-987784666.jpg

Wow wonders. I can't believe that bearing held together.

Mines howling also but only when I'm going above 55 and I take my foot of the gas and coast. Is this the bearings going bad?
