I'm having an issue of getting the AC to blend when its selected. Its not always a problem, but most of the time the ac must be selected when the vehicle has been off for a while. When it works it blows good cold air, the heat works well too. Its when I select the AC from already being on heat settings that it will continue to blow hot air. I know for a fact the system is charged.
I looked for vacuum leaks and haven't found any of the usual culprits in the engine bay nor under the dash. I did sit under the dash while adjusting the thermostat control and the blend actuator doesn't not consistently turn the same amount each time.
Is this likely the actuator or the door being broken? The system does not default to defrost either.
I have had the dash apart plenty, I am half tempted to cut into it this time if its the stinking door. I just don't get how sometimes it works fine and other times it doesn't. I also see no such reference to diagnosing this in the manual from cruisers website.
If anyone has any diagnostic procedure I would love to have functional AC before the summer is in full swing.
Thank you

I would bet on the actuator being full of dried up grease. I have replaced one before and when I opened up the old one it was full of dried, hard grease. Once it was cleaned out and refilled it worked like a charm.

Could be either one. Take the blend actuator (motor) off but reconnect it and cycle the temp switch and see if it turns smoothly. Then see if you can manually turn the blend door though it's full swing. Make sure the little plastic "intermediate drive shaft" isn't broken.
The actuator is available at Rockauto and Amazon.
