Default I have never seen an alternator buried at the bottom of the engine.

Need to replace the alternator.
Alternator is buried at the bottom of the engine !?!!?

Removal from top is blocked by A/C lines.
Not one video addresses this.

Removal from bottom is blocked by frame rail.

Alternator is so close to the ground that you can’t see behind it
Without a lift.

Easily the most convoluted car I have ever tried to work on.
Easier to rebuild a v12 Jag engine than do a basic repair on these insane American cars.

Sounds like you are frustrated. Go do something else and come back to it in a few hours with a fresh mind.

Just did mine. Easily drops out the bottom. I've also removed the battery and tray and pulled it from the top.

I've done mine before. Dropped out the bottom. I recall having to jockey it around a bit but it came out.

OR...Get yourself a RHD, no alt removal issue in the RHD
(but would be for the AC compressor though )

Lol @ the Bimmer Jeep comment

Take a deep breathe, grab a beer (or 5) and make an afternoon of it. I am not a mechanic, and I did mine in under 2 hours.

Yes done several both ways, not hard at all compared to some European vehicles. I changed an alternator on a Volvo XC90 one time and I had to take the passenger side tire, control arm, strut and CV axle out to get to it, insane design.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. Wonder if he ever found instructions on how to jack up his vehicle.

Many vehicles have the alternator down low, just remove the needed parts to get at it, as others said, unbolt the compressor and move it out of the way with lines still attached

You are joking about a Jag V12, a special frame needs fabricating to pull the heads and even that often fails, meaning the engine is usually junked

btw, I have worked on European cars where you need to undo engine mounts and lift the engine up to remove starter or other parts

Quick Reply: I have never seen an alternator buried at the bottom of the engine.
