Installed a new steering gear, rebuilt, Worked fine for 15 minutes or so, started down the road went to make a turn and no power steering. Either it was a failed steering gear or something happened to the new steering pump. I don稚 know which. Anybody experience problems with this? I can accelerate the gas and it works but when you go to idle it does not.

 

have you checked your power steering fluid level? did you burp it before putting the cap back on? you might have a air lock try checking fluid leave cap off! start car turn left then right do it about 10 times and see if your steering comes back

 

If there is a screen in the resvoir it may be clogged, or the o ring between the pump and reservoir might be pinched causing it to suck air. Is the fluid normal or foamy

 

Exact same thing happened to me a few months back when I put in a remanufactured gearbox. The steering pump died shortly after and the steering now pulls to one side, even with a new steering pump. I think the reman box I installed is now bad. Either something went wrong in the installation process (my bad) or it was bad out of the box.

But first make sure the fluid is good and the hoses are not clogged. If that doesn't help, it may be time for a new pump. And you may have to claim your warranty on the reman gearbox and try a different one.
