I Need advice on a junk yark engine.
Ive been doin some engine shopping for my 91 xj. I missed out on a 93 engine with 106k on it. snooze u lose i guess.
I found a few engines at another junk yard about 3 of them out of 95 grand cherokees and 1 out of a 93 xj. They are already pulled eninges and the mileage is unknown. The 93 xj engined look pretty rough, it was oily and the numbers on the valve cover sticker were all wore away. 1 of the 95 grand engines looked real good the vavle cover stick was in perfect shape and it was pretty clean.
I dont know if the condition of the valve cover sticker means the engine could have low miles or not.
so any help on how to spot a good eninge would be great. And will a 95 grand engine work for me? i notice the injectors are different and a few other things.
Ive never done anything like this so any help will be great.

Huh? Might want to check the orginal post- he's got a '91.
I think maybe one way to check the condition of a motor is to pull all of the sprark plugs. If they're all nice and tan with very little build up (expect some though) then you should be alright. If they're all oily or black or otherwise damaged then stay away. And if they don't have spark plugs still in them then look elsewhere.
good luck

i would not buy a junkyard engine unless you can heard it run... i also would not buy a motor unless it still has oil in it The oil can give you a good history and condition of a motor... the grand cherokee motor you have to change all the sensor... and some wiring...
How much are they asking?
