amc 20 is 5x4.5, single piece axle shafts, making it stronger than a typical amc20. it's even the proper track width. 86 model year only.
I'm not debating the FACTS of what I know and have seen any more. I've worked on what I've worked on, in the states. YOU don't have the options that the states would have. that's a fact. I could give a crap what you think, you're a fricking italian which means you don't know the first thing about what goes on over here.
same goes for me...I don't know what options you have in italy, and I don't care either.

See, the difference between a man and an idiot is this, I admit when i'm wrong and don't offend anybody, you are just an idiot because if you would see a camel inside an engine bay you would say it was an "option" of those years due to lack of engines and the petrol crisis and pretend that people beleive you.

I beg to differ.
being that the 85 xj wagoneer was owned by the original owner, had 85,000 miles, DID NOT have any sort of block-off plates or allowance for a turbo on the factory cast manifolds, and did not have any clutch pedal puts it as being stock, OEM in my book. Asking the local jeep parts master about it (who, btw, has been around the block a few times more than you and has, as well, owned just about every jeep you possibly could own and now owns the original presses for J-series body panels) and he told me that it was an uncommon option, and being that it was AMC, it could be custom-ordered that way.
After all, the engine IS the same as what we have in some older, non-turbo winnebago leasharo's, which did come non-turbo as well here in the states.
perhaps because I didn't know the designation of the renault 2.1 as anything other than renault 2.1 you think I'm an idiot. You're wrong, and I'm anything but a liar.
I back down about things I don't know...such as the pukey trans coming behind the 2.1l...never knew that. but I've never had or worked on an 87 2.1, nor do I have an 87 2.1 brochure.
it's interesting that you tell me I'll believe anything is original if I see it on/in a vehicle...you wouldn't believe the AMC20 was a factory option in 86 MJ's until you saw a picture. It's common knowledge among comanche guys, and it's in the 86 sales brochures as well as on the parts checklist.

Custom-ordered is not an option, if it was possible to choose the engine in AMC like for lorry tractors, that's the explanation, but absolutely it was not an option like your metric ton package for the comanche.
We have the winnebago le Sharo here too and since they have the renault trafic frame they came with the aspirated, which was an option.
About the AMC 20 i saw a picture and read a deatailed writeup, and a "comanche guy" confirmed.
What makes you an idiot is your mental seclusion about what happens outside your yard and the convincement that someone, only because of another country, cannot know things about US cars, or whatever, and i am an idiot too because i react to people like you.

You're talking to a comanche guy. I've owned (as drivers) only two cars other than comanches...an 86 vw cabriolet, and an 86 cherokee. I've owned (and driven) more 15 different comanches. I've parted out around the same amount of them. My dad (who bought the MJ diesel, in stock form when I was 11) has had two comanches, and about 12 J-trucks as well as some FSJ wagoneers and cherokees, as well as several AMC cars (javelin, ambassador, rambler). My brother has two comanches right now, has had 3 other ones, and just sold the only cherokee he's ever bought.
We've had 10 cherokees come through for scrapping/resale, and a couple for repairs.
If you knew anything about AMC, you'd know nothing was set in stone. If you could get it, it is clearly defined as an option.
I don't know everything about everything, but I know my MJ's and XJ's and I know by looking @ something that it came stock. on top of that, speaking with the original owner of the xj diesel that you say doesn't exist, he ordered it that way by checking the boxes for what he wanted, and what he didn't want. He got what he wanted. I.E. optional.

I appreciate all your advice and I think right now that i'm just going to get the bearing straight and get another vehicle and just tear the thing apart and start from scratch. End result, I'm gonna get Dana 44's for the rig. By the by, I just had to replace the distributor...now I can't seem to get it started....I've done the TDC thing, I've zero'd out the distrib and started out from scratch. I've checked and rechecked the firing order, the ignition coil, spark plugs/wires seem good...did I miss something???? I hate not having my baby road worthy! I've been reduced to driving my wife's chevy colorado....Yeah....It's a pretty truck...thanks for any help

does it try to start? you probably have it off by one tooth...you can't "index" the distributor per se, as it's bolted in one position...but it's very easy to get the distributor off by one tooth when you put it in, and then it won't start.
