I need a new head..... :(
Originally I posted this in Cherokee chat, but didn't get any answers...
I'm really just looking for some good places to buy a new head for my 2000. Some things I should look out for or any tips.
I did some searches, but all my results were from a while ago, so I m looking for some updated info.
Thanks!

IMHO, look for a salvage head with less, or similar mileage to your Jeep. No point puting a new head on an old engine, and it will be WAY cheaper, as well as a sound repair.....my $.02 worth...HTH!!

Are there different years or casting numbers I should be looking for? I have the junk 331 & really don't want the same unreliable head on it.

Look for an '03 up 4.0 head from a WJ or TJ it will have the TUPY 0331 head, its the 0331
Ver. 2.0 so to speak.
Edited meant '03

It's my understanding that it was very late 2002 when TUPY heads arrived.
Be sure to verify if you get a used head. If it's a TUPY, You can see the word TUPY stamped in if you look through the oil filler cap with a good light and the right angle.
If you're thinking new, I recommend Clearwater Cylinder Head and Alabama Cylinder Head for an excellent replacement head with a good warranty and customer service. Around $500, give or take.

I've thought about going the salvage route, but I feel like I'd still be taking a chance from a junkyard. My 2000 has 147k on it right meow & I'd like it to go for a 100k more. Just did a new Alternator & I'm fixing a bunch of other small stuff too.

My 0331 head cracked in my 2000 and I have 148,000. It is being replaced with an 0721 from a 1994, or you could go with the 0630 head. Both of these will require modifications ,but there is a guy on CF that makes the adapter plate to make the transition smoother.

It is 02 and newer, simple pain free swap, new head, alabama cly. head, clearwater cly. heads, patriot heads. New head will be alot easier than a junk yard head of differant casting to much of a differance in the heads to much other stuff to buy. As far as a j/y head well if you find a 02 or newer grab it otherwise BAD IDEA to much could be wrong and to much other stuff to buy for a head swap.

Might as well just get a new 0331 head will be about the same price time you buy all the other stuff and the wiggler brackets you will make to hold the coil pack remember make sure that they dont vibrate alot that will help kill the packs sooner.

Unless the parts are not very important, I wouldn't use anything from a junk yard for more than body parts or simple things like that.just a bad idea.
