take off your valve cover and look between 3-4, That extra grease and dirt is because the engine is leaking out of the crack, at least that was the story on mine, funny how the bullet proof 4.0 broke in half, also I replaced with an Alabama head and was Happy, sounds like you might have caught this one a little late

Thanks for all the help guys.
Im gona go ahead & order the new head from Clearwater or Alabama.
Questions since i've never done this before...
What exactly will i need? Detailed.
Head gasket, valve gasket, new head bolts, lube, grease, sealant? specifics would be greatly appreciated from anyone who's done this.
Feel free to send me a PM. Thanks!!

Check the lubrication (see my YouTube video) and make sure your lifters aren't shot. Mine were, and replacing them means removing the head, again.
Getting at the manifold bolts can be tricky. Patience. I'll post my video link in a minute.
If you need the FSM pages for this, PM me and I can email them to you.
Best of luck.

Here's a link to my video on rocker arm lubrication. My lifters were totally collapsed. With new ones, oil flew so much I couldn't video it.
As soon as the rain stops, I'll grab a pic of bolt 14 and the threads you will have to cut off.
