No, not for your purposes. Just make sure the pins in the cluster connectors are clean (not black) or bent.
Verify the pin cavities in the cluster connector docks are not black or the pin cavities are not enlarged.
Make sure there is no dielectric grease residue on the pins or cavities.

Try disconnecting the middle electrical connector on the ECU and with it disconnected turn the key to run. If your gauges come up that could be your problem. It could just be dirty or corroded pins on the ECU connection. Mine was
