Default I Need the output seal on a selec trac np 242 transfer case

I'm new to all this and need help big time....I would appreciate if someone would tell me were to find a rear output seal for a np 242 selec trac transfer case on a 00 xj Cherokee limited edition. .it seems like all the seals i find don't match either too big or too small for the joke..

Go to O'Reilly or Advanced Auto, they carry it, but not at every store. I got mine two days ago from O'Reilly and had to have them hold it at a different store for me. Good luck with that, I never want to pull my case apart again.

Get one from the dealer. Part number 4798117.

I've gone round & round with the aftermarket seals - none of which were correct. The Mopar seal was the one that actually fit/worked.

You'd be in the same boat with a NV231J. It uses the same exact seal.

The output seal on your 2000 should be the shaft, not a yoke. Do you have a SYE installed?

Is a shaft like the one that goes to your front shaft..is not a regular long shaft like most of them have but a short one with a u joint..

Yeah that's a SYE, you'll need to find the seal that matches the yoke

If you still have the old one there might be a number stamped on it

So I went today to the dealer and got a seal ..it doesn't look like the original that has already I'm going to try it... What would your suggestion would be?? How can I ask for that kind of transfer case...the part number that the other guy posted only matches the precious seal I got from Oralleys autopart..and doesn't work

You need to find out what kind of SYE you have installed and get the seal that goes with it
