this is a prime example of why I won't set foot in that store, or any 4WP. Effin' Thieves!!

I really wish you'd have gotten in touch with me before going there.

The c-clip on the passenger side is probably stuck in the spacer. I've had the same thing happen and have ALWAYS been able to get them out without any dmage.

My question for the idiots at 4WP is this:
If you can't get the No-Slip out, then how exactly do you plan on removing the axles?

You want my phone number?

Also:
Since the powertrax no-Slip is an expensive item, you can bet your *** that the tech stuck it in his pocket and is going to put it up for sale or install it in someone else's rig for a tiddy profit.

Time to call the DA's office in Littleton and take legal action.

That locker is YOURS.

Cross posting on NAXJA.

Also post in local forums to get people close to the shop to act and someone to go with her into the shop and demand the parts back as well as explain the 500 charge.

Ive had similar instance when my GF first got into jeeps and needed her brakes done while i was out of town. They tried to say the front hub was toast and needed a wheel bearing, balljoints u joint and outer shaft from the bad brakes. I ended up coming home early going down to the shop and yelling at the tech and owner that their claims where BS cause i did them several months before and they where fine. I ended up going down the road, getting a car dolly and towed her XJ home with mine. Ive since taught her how to work on cars

I'd like to see the outcome of this, including the reason for that $500 charge.

I'm sorry to hear this happened, it's all too common and it really pisses me off! I NEVER take my vehicles to shops such as these simply because of situations like this and the fact that most of the techs don't know what the hell they're doing anyway! If I was closer I'd make a trip over to the store and handle this for you!

BTW, thanks for your service!

Not sure if you have had the time to look at what FRANKZ posted on NAXJA but look at post #7. This may help you.

shops take advantage of people all the time. i took mine to a local and asked to have a flywheel replaced. the guy tried to tell me that i needed my shift points adjusted and that would cost 350. i looked through the glass and saw that it was still up. i walked out there and asked him to show me where he was looking to do that. he was clueless and demanded money back for the lying and attempted swindling

but man, this crap is getting all too common.
The local jeep dealer here told my mom her rear axle needed to be inspected and they charged her $350... I was like for what?? A thing of fluid and a gasket??? that I coulda done for 20 and been done with it.
Then last week I called the 4WP here in marietta and acted like I didnt know wat I was doing... I asked if they had a set of blocks and bolts that would allow me 2 put the xj up to 5.5 and the guys was like yea, we gotta set for $225.... I was like are you effing high??
Only a F*^&ING moron would pay you that much for a set of block, and too top it off he said the u bolts were another 50.... I was like hellllll no.
THen asked him about an aal like I bought with my last kit that I paid $58 and some change for and he was like yea we still carry them but theyre $149...

Needless to say, 4WP can go F&%$ themselves.... theyre only out to get people and take them for a ride.
And as for some dealerships and shops that treat people like they did your misses and my mom, they can go join em. That is complete and total BullS$&T.
But i agree, we all needa make a phone call to all ole kirk and the locals need to make a trip in person with your misses and her AR.... LMAO.
But good luck thanks for your service and God bless~Paul

So, I just got off the phone with Mike the manager. He told me that they had to replace the entire axle housing, not the "diff housing". Apparently the old locker was moving around in the rear and was jammed, so they couldn't get it out to pull the shafts They had a customer upgrade axles recently, so they had a 29 spline axle laying around. When I asked why my old parts wernt in the jeep he said it was because he didnt want to put an axle in the back because it would smell like gear oil, but he said he would set it aside so someone could pick it up. I told him that my wife wasnt going to deal with them at all, and that they will deliver it to my house, for free. I told my wife to take a picture of the inside of the diff and send it to me. There were a lot of misunderstandings with this whole deal, but if you were thousands of miles away from your wife, and she was crying, you would want to kill someone too. Sorry if I blew this all out of proportion. All I have to say is, there better be an axle with a ****ed-up locker in it when I get home.

Good to hear that you didn't get screwed over, but stinks that the old locker is tanked (So they say). I wish you the best of luck with the whole situation.

Either way something still smells a bit fishy about the way it went down. It would be interesting to have some local CF members look at your old axle and give a final verdict on if the locker/case could not be removed.

I feel for you my friend. I'm over in the Stan too ...wayyyy up in Nuristan.....and having XJ parts shipped to a shop in SA. I checked out 4wd Parts in town before I left.....just didn't get a cozy feeling about the place, so I decided to use a smaller local shop.

Thanks for your service and Merry Xmas.....
