Talking I thought it was the TC Chain...

I have been trying to diagnose a popping or clunking sound when I am in 4wd. We got a lot of snow and ice yesterday so I took it out to try it again. On snow and ice, the sound isnt as bad as it was but still exists. When I put in in 4wd, I can hear what sounds like a rubbing sound and I thought it was the TC Chain. But coming to s stop, I noticed it makes a sound almost like a machine gun. Same popping sound but it is really fast and repetitive.

So now my question is, could it still be the chain or should I look elsewhere? Or is it more than one problem.

Really scratching my head here. Would rather have an engine problem. At least I know about those. LOL

The only real way to see if it is your chain is to pull the xfer case cover and do a visual on it.

How many miles ?

It is the TC chain. Split the case and the old one almost fell off. Lol.

Now to figure out how to get the new on. I can tell it fits, but it's a tight fit.

Well, it was more work than what people said, but it is done. To test it, I conquered a five foot pile of snow. Woot!
