I want to put 31's on need advice
I just bought my XJ last fall and spent the winter fixing the little things. New radiator, a few gaskets, exhaust, and tires. Now I have the itch to go bigger. I think I will start small since my wheeling experience is limited. Some black steel rims and 31's sound good to me any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'ld like to stay fairly inexpensive but am not looking to cut corners. I want safe and road worthy since it is my daily driver.
Thanks for your help
Steve

if your not planning on wheeling hard and only play in local small mud holes or some trails in your buddies woods then just run 2in blocks in the back and 2in coil spacers up front... you should be good from there... it wont be long before someone behind me tells you different about the blocks but thats because there hard core wheelers and dont like the idea of them what so ever... fact of the matter is most lifted vehicles have blocks in the back...

actually you may have to use 3in but ive got 31's and no lift at all... with removed fender flares and trimmed one inch i havent rubbed yet... figured i got 2 inch of clearance with that so 2in lift should be enough to run 31's... you could also go with 2in shackles on the back but cost more then blocks... some hard wheelers dont like them either but if your only running 31's then your probly not goin crazy offroad anyways...

i agree with huntingman, a 2" BB is probably the way to go. (i would agree with seth but idk wtf bacon means). when i got my jeep it was going to be a simple 2" BB as well but my rear leafs are so shot they are arched the wrong way, and it wasnt a whole lot more to get a 3.5" rubicon kit with full leafs than it would have been to buy new stock height leaf packs, so i just went with that. 31s on a 2", you might be rubbin a little, might wanna stick to 30s or trim a little. i have to disagree with huntingman on blocks tho, the right way to do it is without blocks and add a leafs, blocks are just really hard on the axles, and add a leafs wear out really fast. depending on how bad your leafs are, you might wanna look into making bastard packs, im sure you could figure out a good combo that would only give you 2" or 3" of lift. you got the right idea tho, its a good place to start. welcome to cf.
