I6 Oil Leak
#18
So I checked pretty thoroughly, No leak from the valve cover. Nothing wet on top of the bell housing where oil would be running down from the valve cover. No leak from the oil pressure sensor fitting. Nothing wet above the starter or anywhere on the passenger side of the engine. 100% dry on passenger side above starter.
One drip at the low point of the bell housing this morn after having really cleaned it up yesterday. A bit of wetness on the starter.
Question: Does the engine weep overfill of oil? if so, to where? Just trying to educate myself.
Question 2: What is the operating oil pressure for the I6? I'm a touch over 40. (center-ish of the gauge) My buddy's I4 is near 60. I know its different engine, but we are wondering.
I'm now wondering if it is a trans leak.
Thank you again,
Darryl

Checked valve cover bolts with socket, all tight. Wiped all around the back of the cover, no oil whatsoever. actually very clean. A minor bit of black, but no oil.
It leaked this morning, definitely from the passenger side from directly above or behind the starter. Running down to low point of bell housing. I think I've exhausted all I can do. I have an appt at the local dealer where they'll add dye and hopefully we'll get it sealed up. See what I did there -- sealed up. a little levity is good.
Thank you all for the suggestions. Ill keep you posted.

Well, I drove it for about 40 miles and it is leaking as before, but now I am seeing a bigger picture. Oil is also dripping from the oil pan where it goes around the rear bearing. So now we will need to determine if it is the RMS or just the oil pan seal.

Not loose at all and and I would say they were tight. I would guess 20 lb ft torqued. I gave it a pretty firm twist with my wrench and was able to get them tighter, but I was concerned about over tightening. They were not like other's had said where theirs were a 1/4 or half turn loose.

Oil is dripping from the Starter, cause it gets full of oil from any above leak. The O-rings are directly above the starter

So it seems that the last guy I hired to do the seal replacement used RTV on the mating surfaces of the bearing cap where the two halves meet. The whole job was re-done and another new seal and another new pan gasket. So far so good. Thank you for all the help.

Unrelated, but this is why I feel so uncomfortable about someone else messing with my Jeep... They try to fix a small problem but just end up making it worse. Drives me crazy!!
