1996 XJ 242 cui. 358,000 miles
For a few weeks or more the engine likes to die during long idle times. Was getting a bit while driving at low throttle and maybe one gear too high too, 35 MPH or so.
Took the idle air control valve off and cleaned the throttle body (left body on engine, just removed IAC) and IAC with CRC Valve Body Cleaner and Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner (the latter on the IAC after it was removed). Was careful not to push or twist the plunger, just squirted the cleaner on it, let it liquefy the dirt, then squirted some more to squirt away the dirt. Also used MAS cleaner on the passage where the IAC plunger lives. This part has not been touched since it was installed at the factory.
That seemed to improve things, but not completely. It will still die during a long idle but after restarting it stays running. Going to take the whole throttle body off and go over everything better, especially down in the cavity for the IAC plunger.
Looking at Summit, Oreilly, NAPA, and Rock Auto, even a Crown replacement is about $60, and Standard seems to be about $30+, did see MOPAR at Advance Auto for about $100. Is there really that much difference between these makes to justify such a wide price difference?
Hopefully after doing a better cleaning everything will be working fine again.

This is just one person's experience, but I got an O'Reilly IAC once and it died within 100 miles of installation. Have gone NAPA Echlin or Standard since then with no problems

I started a thread about all the stuff on the throttle body.
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/how...sensor-258416/
I have a bored TB and instead of swapping over all mine just figure I would buy new ones.
But that gets pricey.
Guys seem to like the Standard products.
I already purchased a Mopar TPS cause thinking don't cheap out on that one.
Somebody pointed out that NTK/NGK, apparently supplier of OEM to Mopar, and WVE merged.
Was able to find an NTK map sensor. MA0114.
But no IAC.

100% agree Mopar is over priced, but it's worth it to fix the idle issue. Had a non Mopar IAC broken on arrival and another fail within a few months. Caused me a lot of wasted time and money in terms of diagnosing the problem.

A little update. Got gas today and fuel mileage increased by about 1 MPG. Might be doing the more extensive tear-down on the weekend and will report back.
If I do replace it, will try out the Standard.
