Default Ignition switch help

So I'm pretty sure it's my ignition switch but I'd like some other opinions. Here recently and seemingly at random my fuel pump won't prime, I've got no carpet so I can hear it clear as day. Also when ever it refuses to prime it won't start and my fuel gauge will be allllll the way down to where it's like beyond empty. Now when I have my key in and wiggle it or put some pressure upwards on it the fuel gauge will rise slowly. It'll crank all day until I guess I hit it just right and the fuel pump comes on, it'll run like a tank after its started. I'm thinking of just reading up and hotwiring it somehow so I don't have to deal with it any more. It's a 96 cherokee sport 4xr with a 4.0. What's y'all take?

As somebody who used to drive a 94 (currently driving an 89) that had been hot wired because it wasn't fixed right from the start, do NOT hot wire it. Just fix it right. I promise you will not regret it.

If you moving the key around in the switch makes it prime and start then it seems you would be on the right track. Maybe some others will chime in with other answers if it's something else that ain't so obvious.

Also jiggling the key only seems to affect my fuel gauge and wether or not my fuel pump will prime before I turn the key all the way over. It'll just sit and crank until I do something it likes
