Default Illegal?

Just a question I AM NOT REMOVING ANYTHING. My muffler fell off AFTER the cat, is this illegal? if so how hard would it be to weld another one from the JY back on?

having no muffler i dont think itself is illigal i think the amount of noise not having one will create is illigal. and it def wont pass inspection without one

you can get a muffler for like 25 bucks at any auto parts store

you can clamp it on or weld it, both are very easy

i know in MN that the cat is actually considered a muffler. So it would be legal to just run a pipe after the cat and call it good. Too loud for me tho. I would install a glasspack and pick up a 20 dollar tail pipe from the autoparts store.

yeah mufflers for jeeps are relatively inexpensive. find a cheap one and throw it on there, unless you like the sound of a straight cat that is haha

Well i like the sound of that, how do flowmasters sound on a I6? i had them on my truck and loved them. I might try the glasspacks, they are fairly cheap to my understading

A Thrush performance muffler is only about $35 for an XJ, doesn't sound as good as a Flowmaster, but it's less than half the price.

I dont know about the state your in, but here in alabama, the law says the exhust pipe has to go over the rear end and exit outside of the passenger compartment on a car or suv and it has to be under a certain noise lvl.

i personally hate the sound of an xj without a muffler

its loud, droning, obnoxious, and makes wheelers look bad. the law on that varies by state, and sound laws often vary by town. exhaust needs to exit after the passenger compartment (out back like stock on an xj) in most areas.

i used to run the cheapest muffler from the parts store. but i'm hoping the stock muffler i have now stays intact for quite some time. i like my exhaust quiet.

My stock muffler had holes in it so i swapped it with a thrush turbo god what a POS its sounded like crap. So i took it off and put a glasspack on MUCH better its loud but its much cleaner sounding. and you cant beat the price.
