Thanks Guys!! I used a small piece of wood as a wedge. As well as my framing hammer with a sock on the end.

I guess this is the reason why my '98 won't let me lock the doors with my lock/unlock switch with the keys in the ignition...

The stupid thing was, is that I actually was at the hardware store to make a key and forgot about it.

I have never had anything with power locks so, I have learned a lesson.

P.S. coat hangers toast, I chopped the end off, so I'm a dead man. hahaha

i have aaa. worth it for 30 bucks a year. when i was driving down to florida i put a hole in my fuel line in my yj. so i decided to get towed for free 100 miles to a part store and took a nap in the cab lol. Tripple A is great when u need it but if u never need a tow, jump, car unlocked, or gas. then it kinda point less, but that one time u need a tow it pass for it self for the next few years

anyone with the bad rusty floors can appreciate chryslers F*** up with the crappy floor protection.....
my story... when traveling back down state after a weekend trip in the U.P., i locked myself out of my XJ at the gas station... with 3.5 hrs more to drive and limited $$ in my wallet..... instead of a $50 pick stub..... i crawled under my driver side of the jeep.... Punched through the non existant floor board and between the carpet and side panel ib front of the drivers seat and reached up and un-locked my door....

it was the only positive point i've ever found to having bad floorboards in my older XJ

but an experience none the less

I wonder how that looked to anyone watching ...
Now you have an excuse to replace your crappy floorboard, just in time for winter, I have made it a habit to make eye contact with my keys or crack the window, I've done some crazy stuff before but you got me beat on that one !!

I carry a spare key in my wallet.

I also keep a "Slim-Jim" tucked up under my hood stiffener, for folks who don't keep a spare key.

I have made slim jim copies from an old piece of pallet strapping.

Of course it has to be the metal type, & at least 3/4" to 1" wide & not too flimsy. One end gets a shallow V cut in it to push down, & the other end gets little hooks cut into it for pulling up.

Put it down the outside face of the glass, & aim it towards the door lock tumbler. There are little actuator rods that can be pushed or pulled to open the lock.

Sometimes these rods can be accidentally un-clipped from the lock, so be careful.
