Good idea. Will keep that as a back up plan. Cheers for that idea.

ebay has several to choose from at the moment. Most only ship USA, so you'll still need someone to relay ship to you. Keep us advised, I am most curious as to how this finally gets resolved.

Yep will do. I might remove the car from the main dealers. I know an auto electrician that lectures on the subject he says it should've been easy to reset the car. So we will see.

An update from the dealers. The technician has now managed to get the gauges to work. But the car still cuts out after a few seconds. They are still not sure that they can fix it .

Go pick up your jeep and take it to a stereo shop. Ask them to remove the alarm module at that time they should reconnect the egnition wire like the alarm was never there. If they install alarms they should have no problem doing this.

Good thought if it weren't a UK-spec XJ. The immobilizer is partially integrated into the PCM, so they'd have to find a US or Canadian PCM. The UK version is a bit different than the typical stateside ignition lockout in that if you remove it, the PCM refuses to operate the injectors or ignition.

Strange..well there has to be a stereo shop that can do it. Unless they don't put alarms on jeeps with that system. It also makes no sense that you can't remove it by law It is just a factory alarm.

If he was in california I would do it for him for free just to prove a point.

I have bypassed and installed far more complicated systems than any jeep and I know it's possible. Remote start any vehicle no problem.

ok i know this is a longshot but there is a guy with the online name gojeep he is pretty much a genius with jeeps and vehicles in general i dont think he is on this forum but if you click the link i put up it will take you to his posting of his latest build(putting the entire running gear from a grand cherokee into a 1948 model ****** pickup) he is located in australia (dont know where you are) from there you can register for that forum than send him a private message with youre situation perhaps he can steer you in the right direction. if nothing else his jeep build is a phenominal read. good luck. here is the link

i also posted on his build thread with a link to this thread, hope something positive happens

Hi bigbear the dealership can't bypass alarm as its part of the PCM program. But if it looks like it can't be repaired ill try to source one from the states. It's a great jeep and I don't wanna let it go for sumthin stupid. Cheers

I know what the dealer is saying but you should take your jeep and take it to a stereo shop in your area, not a best buy or any other big store but a professional looking stereo shop.

They should be able to do it.
Just because the dealers say they can't do it doesn't mean it can't happen.

Gonna have to make a decision soon whether to let the car go or hope the dealer can fix. That six weeks now. Will keep updating as and when I hear anything
