Update regarding my xj. No fix yet as they are waiting for info from may and scofield. I told them of a possible fix suggested by Kennzz05 about buying a new PCM from the states. The dealership thought that might be a good idea. I have contacted the PCM supplier and asked if it was a uk spec PCM , in which case it might not work , or if it is US spec which would hopefully bypass the M&S unit.
I also read somewhere in a forum that if the M&S unit activated it would have to be replaced with a new unit. The technician said that may and scofield have not suggested this is the case . Will update when I find anything out

Thanks for the interest in my problem. So an update. No further forward yet. I emailed may and scofield today to ask them if it's possible that once the alarm has 'armed' itself it requires a new unit so I will have to wait till Monday for a reply from them.
I followed a link regarding a replacement ECU or PCM. I emailed them asking if I bought a new PCM would it be a UK spec unit and if so it might not solve the problem . If its US spec it might not require the additional alarm signal but I havnt had a reply from them yet, a week or so ago I think, i will update again soon. Cheers .

Ok another update. Still no fix yet. I have sourced a replacement ECU and immobiliser unit from eBay . It looks like the immobiliser unit may be faulty and isn't sending the correct signal to the ecu and so the car shuts off . Of this doesn't fix it this is the last try. The dealer is out of options too and i am hoping they will fit these parts in the next few days.

I hope this works.....it's amazing that a theft-prevention device could malfunction so badly you have to scrap the vehicle. I sure hope that isn't the case.

Hello 97rRHDXJ thanks for the good idea. I have decided to give up on the xj after the main dealers couldn't fix it. Even after a replacement ecu and alarm box and instrument cluster. Very sad times . I have bought a 2002 cherokee sport on Saturday past to replace 'The old xj' . It needs a few small jobs doing but it's a good low mileage example. I have repaired a couple of dinks and the front damaged grill. Thanks again.

There is no need to give up all you need to do is get a US ecm and I can send you a picture of the wires I cut on the box under the dash and that's it works again don't use a uk ecm ... I can ship you a used one pretty cheap and will test it on my xj be I send it

Just be prepared, using a non-UK spec ECU/PCM will likely result in an MOT failure.

Hi F1...

I've subscribed to this as having a UK model worries me a little. It seems quite a few jeeps get scrapped over here for this problem and it shouldn't be necessary.

What makes you suggest a jeep might fail an mot with a us spec pcm?

If the immobilizer is a mandatory piece of equipment, it won't show up when they run the OBD. On the other hand, my limited knowledge of the MOT testing procedure has been gleaned from Top Gear and Wheeler Dealers so I could be completely wrong
