The importance of the fan shroud?
#31
For a RHD, the Mopar part number for the fan shroud is 52028324
Have a look at http://cruiser54.com/?page_id=365 for the parts diagrams and other helpful reference info.

Cooling system
I honestly don't really know. I'm about to start piece by piece. I'm going to order that fan shroud and flush the radiator and heater core over the weekend after I get off (probably have to be Sunday) I work tomorrow and Saturday. I got a really good deal on this jeep and I am a woman but I believe I can do a lot of this myself. (With help from people like you). Can i ask what specifically you are asking about? Or I should also be looking at?

If you don't know, I suggest doing the flush, but replace everything in the cooling system, radiator, thermostat, hoses,cap...it's not terribly expensive to revamp the cooling system, and it's one of the best things you can do to prolong drivetrain life. The cooling shroud is a major part of the cooling system too, directs air where it needs to

When I did my cooling system, I used www.hesco.us
- high flow water pump.
- high flow thermostat housing.
- quality thermostat with a steam hole.
- 3 row radiator from eBay. Use a quality radiator cap.
- an external transmission cooler plumbed into the factory set up.
- water wetter added to the cooling system.
- silicone hoses for longevity.
I was able to drop my operating temperature from just on the plus side of 210*F, to just on the minus side of 210*F. I’d guess that was a 5*F drop in temperature, so in my eyes, that’s 5* further from overheating.
The cooler you can keep the fluids (oils; engine, transmission, power steering) the longer the fluids will perform.

Over the years I've had 9 Cherokee's, 3 brand new, 6 used & abused.....2 of the 9 had idiot lights.....On those,... running hot, never played a part on my brain, as the temperature light never came on....So if they were teetering on overheating I never knew it.... On 1 xj, I did install a toggle switch to activate the electric fan when I thought the gauge was getting in the overheating zone.....& would activate it often......After a while I had some performance issues with idling, stalling which I could not figure out (long before Forum's) I was friendly with the Jeep dealer & one of the mechanics, so he stopped by one day after work....After hisdiagnosesthe attributed my issues to the toggle switch, saying the reason they run hot is for theemissions& not letting the engine reach theoptimaltemperature throws off the computer settings. This was a long time ago & he had a specific scanner that waspluggedinto the ports on the right apron behind the battery.....Once everything was calibrated I no longer had any performance issues & stopped using the toggle switch.....Another thing to keep in mind....I also have an 88MJComanche with a 4.0 NO A/C& it does not have an electric fan, never did, so on non A/Cmodels there is no electric fan, nor does my Comanche have factory gauges, it hasidiotlights, It still has the original radiator & the temperature light never comes on....Finally when I replace radiators I always use the 3 row aluminum radiators....It simply is not worth the effort in flushing a cooling system, in my opinion that potentially can create additional problems....I have never experienced a temperature gauge pegged in that red zone...... Plain & simple they run hot...

I understood everything you said lol. I actually have the 3 extra fans in the front of my jeep with the toggle switch and it makes perfect sense that it doesn't calibrate right!! I'm waiting for my fan shroud to get here I ordered. Already flushed the system I had to because the past 2 days here in NC were 100 degrees. I have a few replies to my message and I'm soooo grateful for every response! I'm going to do what each of you have suggested! I need this vehicle! Brand new RHD'S are so expensive everyone else has a new wrangler and I'm not interested in spending 30-40K for a vehicle it will be impossible to protect!! Not to mention they all have problems with theirs! I like my 99 Cherokee especially the fact I can work on it myself!
