It is a hot engine.
It'll help at low speeds, but it might actually hurt at highway speeds. At speed, there's an area of high pressure that develops at the base of the windshield. That high pressure will force air back down into the hood, potentially reducing airflow through the radiator. It's more of an issue when hood vents are installed too far back, and I doubt the small space from the missing gasket would cause any problems, but something to be aware of.

I also recommend putting in a manual override switch for the electric cooling fan. You can flick it on at any time and help blow some out that heat out of the engine bay. It also helps keep the coolant and trans temps down.
