Default Indicator stalk not returning to neutral after wheel straightens

hi there,I have a right hand drive 99 XJ, when I signal right (up) the stalk clicks into place but does not return back to its starting point when the wheel is straightened. when I try signal left (down) the stalk doesnt even click into place and I have to hold it down for the signal to become effective. pls help

Sounds like you need to replace the multi function switch on the steering column.

Mine did that on my 99. Pretty easy to fix

My 97 did that the day i bought it. Easy fix. Just cancel it manually. A minor annoyance, but it gets the job done.

yeah it's the multifunction switch. I have a brand new, unused one that is missing one of the springs (you can just take one from your currently, broken switch). Let me know if you're interested. $20 shipped.

hey all. many thanks for the replies and helping me out here. i have managed to source one here in south africa. till then just manually reset it. man I love these XJ's. so much character
