Default "Injector circuit open - cylinder 5"

Hey everyone. the name's trav. i have a 96 cherokee country, 6 cylinder, auto, 4x4. And also, my CEL came on the other day (which irritated me to no end haha). I drove around some more, shut it off and yesterday it was fine. Now, this morning i start it up to go to work and the dang light is on again. Only this time it ran funny. It chugged a little bit, was alittle slow taking off and didn't sound like the HEEP i love. So i called my boss, irritated him with my issue :P and then threw the OBD scanner to it. Code comes up as P0205 "Injecter Circuit Open - Cylinder 5".

-What is this 'open' circuit persay? Does that mean the injector is over squirting fuel or that it isn't working?

- Also, could it be just the connector to the injector? Because from my understanding, and please correct me if im wrong, an open circuit means that the circuit is allowing the flow of electricity to pass. Which is the way its supposed to work.

- Some have said that it could be the TPS, or CPS sending mixed data. I think i have a loose bolt(s) on the flex plate and or/torque converter. Could the rattling have shaken the CPS up a bit to the point where it is malfunctioning?

Im fairly mechanically inclined but the electrical stuff is over my head. Any help at all would be most appreciated

THANKS!!
Trav

Trust the code.

An open circuit means that the circuit has a spot somewhere that is NOT allowing the signal to move through. OPEN=BAD as far as circuits go.

The #1 thing to do is to inspect the connector and all wiring associated with the injector. And if you don't find anything, then swapping the #5 injector to a different cylinder and see if the misfire code follows. If it does, you know what injector to replace.
