The gauge warms up like normal but it then goes to 240 and it will get warmer like normal. So I replaced everything like the radiator water pump thermostat with 195 and it still runs at 240 so I then installed the flush kit from prestone and was running the jeep with hose water though the motor and out the radiator it still got to 240 with cold fresh water cycling threw it is that normal or do I have a bad gauge it also smells hot all the time.

With cold water cycling thru your engine, it will NEVER get to 240 degrees.. but at the same time, your thermostat will NOT open with cold water running thru it. Even a new thermostat can be bad, check it, and make sure it's facing the correct direction.

Did you put the flush kit tee in the correct hose? I think it goes in the hose between the thermostat and the firewall.. this is so the garden hose water goes thru the heater core on it's way thru the engine and radiator (again the thermostat is closed so water can't go that direction)

I don't really have a definite fix for you, just a couple things to consider. good luck!

Best way to flush the head/block is with both the t-stat cover and water pump removed.....stick the hose in the t-stat hole. Next best way is remove heater hose from t-stat cover and bottom rad hose from water pump....stick the hose in/on the nipple on the t-stat cover. Also, remove the top rad hose from the t-stat cover and stick the hose in the top rad hose, then in the heater hose. Don't flush crud from one place to another.....flush heater core, head/block and radiator separate from each other.

The boiling point of water is 212F. I'd suspect either the gauge or sending unit has gone bad.

Inside the cooling system, pressurized at 16psi, the boiling point of water is around 265 degrees....240 is not boiling..

I'll take your word for it... I'm still betting the gauge or sending unit has a problem.

The whole unit is weird it replaces the factory Location it goes into the block and it never feels tight and it's in a hard location to tighten in the back of the block it's the electrical one not mechanical
