Red face Instrument Cluster

I've got a 93 and the previous owner put some white back lit gauges in that ended up no lighting. And the white was so out of place with the beige interior I decided to take them out. Now I have a slightly different issue. The tach is sluggish, if it works at all and the fuel gauge stays at zero (did that before too). I'd like to get a new cluster but finding a 93 is tough. Does anybody know what years will fit? Mine have the actual gauges not just lights for oil/water/volts.

Thanks!

I’d say up through ‘95. ‘96 was a transition year. Later years will fit but it’s a matter of how the speedo/tach are driven. Through ‘95 are cable driven, later years are electronically driven, as is my ‘96. I hope to stand corrected if I’m mistaken.

After reading many threads on several different forums I finally came across this on NAXJA.ORG:
  • 84-86 were electronic except for the speedometer, which was run off a cable. The 87-90 were also the electronic and run off a
Speedo-cable, but the Speedo cable from the earlier year is different, so when you get your parts, make sure to get the upper cable
from which ever jeep the cluster came from. The 91-96 gauge clusters are all interchangeable and the 97-01 clusters are all swappable.
With this info I was able to find one from a 95 with similar miles as mine (not that it matters because it is exempt from reporting miles on registration but I wanted to be close) for $50. Might be a little high but cheaper than making my own cluster with aftermarket gauges.

It is possible that info is not 100% correct of course since I did not physically look at all of the years. But I do know that mine is an electronically driven speedometer.

95 is electronic - you're good to go with that one.

Is that the same electric version that was in the 97 and up too? Was a nice plug and play upgrade for mine, not sure how far back that option/ability goes though.

I have a 96 gauge cluster in my 93, and it works fine.
My 93 did not have full gauges, so I did have to replace the oil sender as well as the temp sensor on the back of the head.

The actual cluster is different for 97+ and -96, but the ability to swap them out is exactly the same for 91-96. The only difference between the swap is that the -96 used the separate temp sender and the -96 swap brings the ODO out of sync (the -96 is a mechanical odometer, 97+ is digital).

I did the swap on mine and am very happy with it. My mileage was out of whack anyway since the motor had been swapped by the P.O.
