I am new to the site and have been browsing for a bit.


I have a 99 Cherokee Limited that at one time had the overhead console, that was ripped out due to excessive smoke damage from cigarettes.

I ripped the fabric and console out, leaving the wire harness there. I foolishly decided to cut the wires back to hide them in the frame and I did not pull the battery off first.

There was a pop and my instrument cluster went dead. I replaced the fuse and only got the lights to work.

Yesterday I went to the junkyard and got a good cluster and installed it, however the issue is still the same. I then checked all fuses and reset the computer and nothing changed.

The fuel light will come on if its on E, the cluster will illuminate when headlights are on and I did the test where you on the odometer reset button and turn the key.

I can't figure out what the hell is going on.

You checked the fuses in the kick panel, under the hood, and fusible links?

 

When you do the instrument cluster test, all the gauges work?

And under normal operation, the only thing that doesn't work are the gauges?
