Default Insulated Hood

Hi, I just got a free 97 XJ for parts and it has an insulated hood, my 94 XJ does not. My husband thinks that the insulated hood might be better then the non-insulated. I do not think that is true due to how hot the engine gets. So I need help with this. I am debating pulling the hood and keeping it until we finish some body work and get it painted. My question is: should I go with the insulated or stick with mine? My XJ is my pride and joy and I want to do what is right for it. Thank you for your time,
Siddie

The only good thing it dose is quiet down any motor noise. The bad thing is when you blow a hose and it a ton of fluid rains down on you. it might also trap that hot air.

Insulation will make the hood LESS hot to the touch and deaden some engine noise. I would just take the insulation out of the 98 hood and put it in the 94s. I'm lazy it easier to move the insulation than it is to swap the hood, even if only by a couple minutes.

I'm not even sure that the hoods are direct swaps.

A lot if not most of the '97's front cap parts are different.

I believe '97 up are the same, '96 down are the same.

For body styles, yes. But there are small changes between years.

Sent from my mind using the rusty stock leafs off my xj.

Yes, that's my point. I don't think they can direct swap the '97 onto the '94.

You can use a 97 hood on a 94.

the doors, hood, fenders and header can all be swapped out.

No rear hatch though :\

A TON of the XJ's over the years didnt come with insulation. My '99 didnt. I think its a waste personally. You wont notice the noise difference, and these engines get so hot that there's no way Id put insulation on mine, and if I picked one up with it Id rip it out before driving too far.

My guess is under hood insulation came on upper level optioned/trimmed XJs.

My '92 Laredo has it.

My '87 Pioneer doesn't.

Neither runs hot. The '92 may be a little quieter.

The insulations will hold heat. I'd lose it.

I would think under hood insulation would make no difference in coolant temp.

Mine doesn't have it. The hood gets pretty hot to the touch. I wouldn't want it in, I would rip it out. But save, idk if mine doesn't like the cold yet since I just got it haha
