intake and exhaust manifold
i have a 96 Cherokee 4.0 and have a crack in my exhaust manifold. i figure why go to a junk yard and get the same thing .. i don't know much about this stuff still learning but from just looking at the intake and exhaust manifold, they don't look like they were made for the best flow. my buddy has a newer Cherokee and his **** looks way cleaner and better designed (think its a 99) would i be able to go out and pull these two parts off a newer jeep.. if so what year .. thanks (if any pics please share)

I've only been told that the 99+ intake manifold is better, and I see no reason why it souldn't be, so that would be what you're looking for. I think you need to get a lot of the power steering pump parts too as it mounts differently. Not sure about injectors thought. As for the exhaust I think you can't go or shouldn't go higher than 99. I believe in 00 they changed the header and it wont bolt up to your exhaust.
It's my opinion that the headers crack because there is no flex pipe. I guess they thought that with the length of the pipe it would flex enough but the header seems to take the abuse and eventually fail. I'm considering making a bracket that would mount to the engine block and bolt to the header flange to relieve the stress off the header, hope to eliminate the problem in the future.
Good Luck

Go buy an APN header get the 99 intake power steering brackets and use your injectors or get the upgrade injectors. You can search all these parts to get your answers cause asking for answers on sum of this will just make it confusing for you.

The claims/rumors/Internet bs are 5-30 hp increase with the late model (curvy) intake. This article states a 5 hp DECREASE on the dyno when they bolted a late model intake to a '98 XJ.

since yours is a '96, you already have the proper power steering brackets.
it is 100% bolt on. you can use exhaust manifold from any year H.O. up until around mid 2000 when they went to a split dual manifold with dual pre-catalytic converters.
but. they all break. buy a cheap header, or the $100 ebay stainless header that has flex pipes in the # 1 and # 6 down tubes.

and, coming from someone who has a 2001 intake, 5.0 injectors, bored and cam'd 4.0, 62mm TB, and modified borla header....you won't regret the mod even if all you do is the intake and a mild header.

2000 to 2001 have the best manifolds. so if you dont want the apn one go to the junkyard and try to pick one of those up. there better because they needed it as they had to pass stricter emmisons with the exhaust.

i love this topic. its liek only a few people have ever instaled a new IM and they either loved it or hated it. most people who put new ones on, also widened out their exhaust, bored the tb and through a spacer and a cone filter onto it. the people hwo do all these tests didnt think of it in the bigger picture. i want to see a test with all the mods working together, that is the only true test.

if i ever get the money and time to get it all done i think i will. my problem is that i need to do an engine rebuild before i start tinkering... i want to start from as close to new as possible.
