Interior Light Stays on
2000 cherokee sport...
I've had a problem with my interior lights staying on even when the automatic lock fob is clicked to lock it they stay on, it would normaly have turned out.
It happened a week ago when a friend closed her door while getting out and they stayed on.. never to go out again I had to pull the light bulbs out to keep them from burning my battery power out..
Is there a switch to turn off the middle console light.. dumb question I know but it seems to be run by my Key Fob? only and has no push mechanism
Suggestion on this one?

Check your dimmer switch/**** for the instrument panel lights. If it's moved to the max. position, it turns on the dome/interior lights. If that's not the problem, check all the door switches. Maybe one of them is broken or in need of adjustment. (remember to re-install your bulbs for testing)
*Also, I'd look closely at the dome light itself.. mine has the buttons that are kinda hidden.. you have to push the light itself which is the on/off switch.

yep, have tested them a few times and even with the switch in the off position, but will try again this weekend..
Would it be the door mechanism on the side of the door that may give it an issue?
Thanks for your help guys!

I have a similar problem. The Dome lights stay on after I leave the car. If I get in the passenger side, turn the key to power on (don't need to crank), turn it off, and exit the car and close the door, the lights go out properly!
That rules out the Dome Dimmer AND the driver door switch, right!
Nuther thing. When I lock the doors with my key fob,the red light on the dash does nothing, but if I do it AFTER following the passenger side procedure outlined above, the red light flashes normally. Very weird!
I did have a problem with a wire in the Driver Side Door harness a couple of years ago which I found when looking for a problem with my Drive Side window stopping when lifting, which I repaired in place, but it did not solve that problem.
Mine is a 2000 JGC Laredo (WJ) v6 with the only aftermarket mod being a Trailer Hitch and Hitch lamp wiring, which I did the latter.

Had a similar problem with my Cherokee Sport - 98. The dome lights would not turn off and it drained 2.5amp continuesly from the battery. (sometimes the light turned itself off but the "door-open" indicator in the dash was still lit - the battery drainage was still present).
What caused it all was the manual on/off switch in the rear dome light, that small piece of plastic wrecked three batteries.. Just remove the switch - the light will still operate when doors open but you're unable to manually operate it.

Interesting. It sounds similar, but different, maybe a switch but one on the driver door.
So far, in the four months since I've been dealing with this problem, I've found a workaround that works every time. The Driver simply needs to exit the car and close the door, and then come around to the passenger side and turn off the motor, close the door and press the lock button on the key fob.
My battery has not died even once since I figured this out.
I also now have a plan to troubleshoot exactly what failing switch/component it is. Just need to get a round tuit ;-D
Thanks again!

Here's a way...When the car is not running, Pull off the + pole from the battery. Place a amperemeter between the + pole and the cable. ( any cheap multimeter should do, but it must a least be able to handle 20amp.) First find which circuit the dome light is using, mine was fuse 17 in the engine compartment, check manual. Pull the fuse out and check amp drainage, if it's gone you found the right circuit.. Put it back in and start removing door switches one by one, read the amp to check if drainage stops (be aware to pull the sockets to the door switches all the way out so they so they dont disappear into the chassis). Pull out power to the light in the engine compartment, remove interior in the back door and disconnect the power, pick out dome lights and disconnect... Check drainage, remember also the glove compartment light switch. When engine is not running, the battery drainage should be from 0-0.25 amps, if more than that you have a leak...
