Interior lights wont shut off
Just noticed this morning my interior lights were still on from when I got home last night and can't figure out why. First thing I thought was I might f left the headlight switch turned to the on position and it wasn't that so I did a little searching. Everything that I read left me trying all the switches in the door jambs and the tailgate. I disconnected each one separately and nothing. But every little wire I touch dims the light making me think that a wire was loose somewhere but I can't find anything. I did recently spray silicone spray on the tailgate latch mechanism which is where the switch is, but I disconnected it and nothing changed. Right now I have the main dome light disconnected but the floor lights are still on. Any ideas?

lol howd I know you would chime in. but yea I thought that too but when I turn the **** to the point when the lights would turn on the lights get a little brighter. which makes me believe the switch works? I could be wrong though. is there a way to test if the headlight switch is bad? everything else that goes with the switch (headlights and gauge dimming lights) works like normal.

Is this a consistent, recurring problem? Since you have a '98, I suspect an issue with the headlight delay module. This module will keep your lights on as a sort of "courtesy" if you shut off the ignition and open the door before turning off your headlights. Try searching for topics on that.
Another possibility is the keyless entry module, located in the dome light. That will pop your interior lights on when you hit the unlock button. Do you use the keyless entry?
I had this issue ONCE, and I ended up pulling the battery cable so that my interior lights weren't on all night. Next day I hooked it up, and I haven't had the problem since, so I guess I never really figured it out but those were areas I started looking at.

This is the first time it's happened. And I have keyless entry but it hasn't worked in a few years. I'm going to try disconnecting the battery and see if that works. But the only other thing would be is the headlight switch. So I'll try a couple things today and see what works.

well like I said, it hasn't worked in years so I doubt that that's whats causing the problem. but I did go ahead and disconnect the battery and hooked it back up and the lights worked like normal for about 30 min and now they're not working any more. lol. So it looks like I'm going to get a new switch

Lights don't work from switch on dash ? If disconnecting batter was temp fix dought the headlight switchs is the issue. Id check fuse now ,and un plug the sensor for key less entry and see what happens then....
