It's another lift question!
So I want to buy the Rubicon Express Super-Flex 3.5in Lift with full leaf packs.
That's going to run about 760 dollars.
I'm fairly certain I'm going to need an SYE and driveshaft. I reckon that's what another 400 bucks?
Will I need new shocks? I've heard Billstein 5150s are a good buy.
I figured I'd do this before grabbing up new bumpers because of the heavy weight of the bumpers I want to buy.
Am I missing anything. Do I need anything else. I'm getting into wheeling and have no prior experience. I could probably install the lift alone but that might be a big PITA especially if it doesn't go smoothly.
Thanks for the tips. My buddy bought a TJ and it's already ready to wheel so I gotta this stock XJ up a little so I can go too.

the RE kit will be much better for offroading it comes with everything you need except the shocks and sye the OME shocks have some great reviews as very good shocks as for the sye you could also look into the Hack and tap which is alot cheaper if you get JY parts good luck

How did you end up going with a Rubicon Express? Just wondering cause I've been going through the process of deciding for months now.

I got Hells Creek leaf pack for the rear. just FYI. The front springs were were Rough Country. They sagged alot compared to the leafs. I had to get 1.75in spring spacers in order to level it out. It rides alot smoother than the Fabtech lift I had on my other Cherokee. Fabtech was stiff, better offroad though. 70% of my driving is on pavement. I ended up with about 3.5 inches of suspension lift.

If you go with the RE 3.5 expect about 4.25-4.5" of actual lift. Also make sure you get a .75" coil spacer for the front coil springs. Also get the Bilstein 5150's or RE monotubes. As for an SYE yeah you will need one, and you can use a stock front XJ driveshaft with it. Depending on which t-case you have will depend on what type of an SYE you will need. If you can't afford an SYE right now you could do a t-case drop for now and do the SYE later when you have more funds. Also I would go ahead and plan on replacing you driveshaft u-joints as well.

Why do I need the coil spacer for the front springs?
The main reason I've been looking at RE is that I've heard great things about the quality of the lift kit.
I saw the Old Man Emu lift and it caught my eye because it came with shocks.

What is the suggested SYE and driveshaft for a 2001 XJ NP231 TC?
I found a good deal on the RE6030 Super-Flex Kit with OME shocks for 850 so I think I'm going to pull the trigger soon.
Need to know everything else I need to purchase though.

before you go spending money for nothing just put on the lift and see if you even need the sye it will cost about 500 to 450 so if you don't need it don't but it yet. and the bilstien 5150 are an awesome shock

I figure if I go with the OME shocks I'll get nearly the same ride quality if I had gone with the OME 3in kit.

The front coil spacer is needed to level it out. I forget now why it's setup that way but it's because of aftermarket bumpers and such.

Please allow me to toss in my two cents. I run a RE 4.5" kit with 2" spacers in the front. In my opinion the monotubes are the hot tip I run them also and I have tried everybodys with the exception of the 5150's.As for the sye... I don't have one and RE says that unless your over 4.5 you shouldn't need one.I do use a longer slip yoke in the rear. As for the quality of RE i would use no other.

If you ran an aftermarket rear bumper and tire carrier the rear would sit lower enough to match the front. Don't ask me why but with the RE 3.5 you need the .75 to level it completely out.

Hmm. What spacer should I get? I plan on getting a CROK rear bumper in the future but probably not a tire carrier. I can't stand tire carriers. No offense to those who love them.
