Jacking question
So my engine mounts and maybe trans mount have seen their last day today due to the fact my engine is almost smashing into the hood and just falling back into the engine bay. Is it safe to put a block of wood on a jack and jack the engine up by the oil pan? Or is there some other way to lift it to replace the mounts?

The left side mount always goes first because the engine torques and lifts that side. The right side is being pressed down. Any engine always torques opposite from crankshaft rotation. Fighter pilots in WWI found out their planes turned quicker and faster when going with that engine torque. It was even more pronounced in WWII with higher performance engines. The P38 Lightning had engines that rotated in opposite directions to cancel that torque problem. Even marine engines, even though they are mounted backwards, have a mount problem. It's called Physics!

The trans mount should be loose when you do the motor mounts. If not its going to be hell trying to get your engine lined up. In all reality it doesnt matter which you do first as long as all mounts are loose
