There's one in the small Town that my Brother lives in (about 40 miles from me). He uses it mostly for rural deliveries. I've seen it for years and actually drove by him side by side while in my Comanche this past Monday. He didn't even notice me! It's in great shape - lifted, AT tires, after market bumpers, etc. - really good looking truck that he probably off roads as well. It's black and has nothing on it that would indicate that it's a postal truck.
To the OP ... I used to restore British sports cars. Most of them were set up for left and right hand drive. It was pretty easy to ID the parts that were specific to one or the other (pedals, cables, steering, etc.). It's not that many things. One thing to be sure of is that you have the right headlights for the area you drive in (your post didn't say). The flutes in the head (and other) light lenses direct light in different ways. Kind of obvious but sometimes overlooked.
You don't say if you plan to convert it to LFD. I did a few and it's pretty straight forward. My Brother (different one) converted his '82 Mini. My guess is that an XJ would be a bit tougher but probably due to small things (harness, sensor locations,??) .

One of the shops I worked several years ago built this dune buggy with dual controls so you could drive it from either seat (obviously the child in the pic is too small to drive). First time I rode in it we were doing about 90mph over decent sized whoops when the driver puts his hands in the air and yells "You drive!" It was pretty awesome.
There were a lot of fun things about that industry I miss.

not sure if there was a special JDM model XJ. Sometimes you get surprised though.. Like the TRD package for the Chevy Cavalier..
Speaking of US Import laws, they are supposedly terribly complicated and garbage. I heard a story a year or so ago about how some guy in Columbus had an R32 and an R33 Skyline destroyed because he got caught with them.
