Default Jeep Cherokee Audio

Hey everybody, I have a 96 cherokee sport and i'm looking to upgrade the sound system. Does anyone have any knowledge on the size of the factory speakers. My cherokee has a speaker mounted on each of the front doors, and two mounted on the headliner just forward of the hatch. Thanks!

Thanks, if this was your jeep, what brand would you use for the speakers or head unit?

I install Kenwood on son's Jeep.Go with what you like and can afford same thing for the head. Same thing for the head unit. The head on my son's is a double din (Eclipse)he likes it.

If I recommend a brand in particular it will open Pandora's Box.

I used Kenwood Speakers and head unit. Love the quality. It was somewhere around $160 for the speakers ($80 for each set) and $150 for the head-unit.

I've always had good results with Pioneer stuff.

In my case all I did was to center the speakers and drill new pilot holes for the screws.

But you have elec windows right? Don't know if you can put 6.5's with manual as the widow crank will hit the speaker.

Most head units will do ~15w RMS to the speakers. This is pretty abysmal, so if you are really looking for good gear I must recommend a good 4 channel amp.

My favorite 6.5's that I heard (and I listened to a lot of units before I bought mine) are the Image Dynamics CTX 65CS. Tweeter and midwoofer are both super smooth and not harsh even at extreme volumes.
Also keep in mind that a coax speaker is like front wheel drive. You are asking one unit to handle too many frequency ranges.

Component speakers are vastly superior and I might even ditch my rear speakers to give the front ones 120w RMS per channel because the IDs sound that good.

Any deck that has 4v or higher pre-outs and the features you want are generally up to par. I like pioneer, Kenwood, alpine, and Eclipse personally.

For the money I would say go with polk speakers and an alpine stereo and an alpine 4-channel amp. You would probably want to redo the wiring too. It all depends on your budget though. If you go offroading much and get the interior wet you might want to look into marine speakers or something.

I never buy anything without researching it a ton first. Crutchfield has some good information listed on their site, so you might want to start there.
