I agree completely. I would to add trans fluid to the crankcase if the engine had not received adequate oil changes and is seriously gunked up. Also, I used it after I replaced a cracked cylinder head to purge any remaining sludge from the engine.

Ah, yes - sorry I read your post wrong. I was assuming you were talking about COMPLETELY DRAINING the oil and doing the tranny oil trick. Yeah you're right, topping it off with a quart won't hurt anything.

Agreed... but the 4.0 isn't a modern engine. It's an old engine design that received its last "update" in the 80s - other than electronics, the internals have remained unchanged - https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/rot...8/#post2769854
