Default Jeep Cherokee Limited, no mods. What to start with?

I'm looking to start working on my Jeep, but I really don't know where to start!
Can I get some suggestions?

It's a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Limited.

It's really up to you...

I would probably put a 3" lift and 31"s on it to start

b4 any modding begins, does it run well and drive nice? And yeah, I would definitly do the exhuast first, makes it funner to drive, and maybe some 15 inch crager black wheels.

It runs well, I just spent 12 hours on saturday making sure it's in good condition. I like the fender flare and the lift/tire idea. I'll start with that. Thanks!

Wow, interesting replies. First off, what is your budget. You gotta see what you can afford before you start hacking things up. lol. Here is a decent list of should do's . . .

First thing you really need to do before anything (if you haven't allready) is to give it a full tune up and freshen her up. You will be glad you did in the long run. Big tires wont do anything on the trail with a broke down truck.

Second is to figure out your budget

Third is figure out what your gonna be doing with it (d/d, trail rig, rocks, mud, ect.)

Fourth is research what things you are interested in and will need to be able to accomplish what you want your rig to do

Then once you've got that figured out you will know where you need to start!

^^x2. Start by making it run right. No matter what you plan to use it for, it needs to run well and safely. Next, figure out what you want to use it for then create budget for it. If it's going to see ANY offroad use the first thing you need to invest in is recovery points and a good tow strap. From there you can look into armor, lift, tires, etc.

Maintenance is always first priority, but sounds like you realize that and are on it.

Check on tire coverage laws in your state.. might be a ticket magnet once yo cut the fenders.

What will your primary use of the vehicle be?

flush the cooling system! And yes get it running well. The outside of my jeep was pretty much flawless so I started by updating a personalizing the interior. I prefer that my girlfriend, my dog and I have a comfortable ride with everything we need at our fingertips. I just got my jeep recently and the budget is limited but so far I got LED dash lights, a black gauge bezel, new cd player with iphone hookup, mounted a maglite and got some wheel locks. I'm working on fixing every electrical issue as well. My plans for the near future are better storage compartments in the back and a subtle roof rack since camping season is fast approaching. Once I need some new tires I was thinking about some cragar soft 8s or something inexpensive. No plans on a lift any time soon but it could happen.

Attachment 27553 Here's my '91 limited. After maintenance, the first things I did. Replaced the sagging headliner (along with the overhead console) Replaced the yellow head lights, With 50000K hyper white HID's and factory fog bulbs to match. (along with wiring harness upgrade) Big difference. Replace the factory stereo. with something I liked. Now it's a seven speaker surround system. If yours came with the premium sound system. You have two 1" under dash already. And you can replace the 5 1/4's speakers in rear hatch, with 6X9's. And I put my 10" sub in the rear passenger side pocket. There's write ups here for both. My amps under the rear seat. So nothing is out, and tempting to steal. You can't even tell I have about $1400 worth of stereo equipment in it. Eventually I do plan on a 2.5" Old Man Emu lift. And buff out my rims. They do look a lot better silver, Than gold. If I was you. I would have them sandblasted, buff the top surface to a shine, And a coat of clear over that.
