If your shift pattern is like this it's an NP231 (Command-Trac) part time unit otherwise it's an NP242 (Selec-Trac) with fulltime option.

As I have stated before swapping a d35 to 8.25 can impose other challenges.

Many are quick to recommend it but fail to mention short falls like the abs system.

Just bypass the abs, it sucks anyways. Also get the driveshaft out of the jeep when you get the 8.25 axle.

You mentioning to disable a system built into the car is also not good advice no matter how good or bad it may be.

Really, what about the ones that came from the factory without abs, is it bad advice to drive one of those? I bet the OP's 1990 model doesn't have ABS.

Those without have been configured properly so that your not pulling fuses or bulbs.

so you should just run a worse axle just because of some "short fall" like bypassing the abs? Its a very common swap. I dont see the isee at all.

If you keep running a Dana 35, offroad with 33s, it won't be long before your axle is no longer configured properly.

I'd rather not have ABS then see my tire and axleshaft change lanes in front of me.

The carrier, axles, axle tubes, and housing are all weak.
