Default Jeep locked up in reverse

So my wife drove my 2001 XJ yesterday, and while backing up out of the drive way she says it suddenly stopped. She put it in park and got out to make sure she just hadn't gotten hung up on one of the boulders lining our drive way, she hadn't. She continued to back out and as she backed out onto the street it happened again. I took it out last night and it wouldn't reproduce the lock up for me. However I did notice a strange noise when coming to a complete stop. I have no vibrations, and I'm only running a 2 inch lift with 245/75/16's drive line is all stock. Any ideas? I'm hoping its not my Transmission. I've only got 93k on it.

Could it be the rear brakes? The self adjusters adjust when you brake in reverse

She said her foot wasn't on the brake when it happened. Although a brake shoe issue might explain the weird scrapping noise I heard when I came to a complete stop.

I've taken the e-brake on and off, and it doesn't seem to affecting it.

i hate to say it but that seems like a tranny problem, buddys old bronco did the same thing and then reverse just stopped working one day; 2 days later pedal to the floor maxing out at 15 mph with smoke cloud billowing out from under the hood. Make sure you find out whats wrong with it before it happens to you..... then again that was a ford and they suck like that

Could a pinion bearing cause it to lock up like that?

It was the brakes! I opened up the passenger side drum and one of the pads had separated from the shoe and was floating freely inside the drum. Lots of debris! I'm going to take this opportunity to switch over to ZJ disc brakes. Any body got a set of ZJ rear disc breaks!?
