I haven't had enough coffee this morning to comprehend that.

Anyway, time to unplug and plug back in the CPS, look to see if the wires got knocked off the ballast resistor etc.

This sounds familiar. When I first tried to start my engine after replacing the fuel injectors, it would start but die immediately. The one time I got it to stay running for a few seconds, it sounded like it had an extremely radical cam and was belching black smoke out of the exhaust. After checking everything under the hood, I found a 3-wire plug on the fire wall, just above the intake manifold (could be the O2 sensor wire, I didn't check) had come unplugged because the retainer clip was broken off. So anyway...........I plugged it back in, zip tied it to secure it and she's been running fine since then.

That's the MAP sensor on the firewall.

When the key is in the "ON" position, radio turns on, gauges start going up, but right when I turn it to start, everything goes dead. Any ideas?
think you might have it cruiser valve cover replaced maybe left it off?

Ok I replaced the starter relay and no luck. I have high hopes on it being the CPS after reading many threads, but even after looking at pictures and threads, I embarrassingly cannot find the CPS. I tried looking for all three wired connections but no luck -____-. Can any of you guys spot it for me?

Ok I checked the CPS via these instructions https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/testing-cps-5563/ and it was fine, but then I noticed that the MAP sensor was completely disconnected.....my friend was the one who did the valve cover removal and I'm pretty sure he removed it to get to a bolt and forgot to connect it back. Everything works fine now, but it started smoking a bit from the engine bay. I did forget to turn on the fans, hopefully it was because of that. Thanks for all the help guys!

I think that's what Hamster was trying to point you to in Post #20. Those connector's clips break off, too. Is your clip still in tact?
